Experiential Philanthropy Program in the Center for Nonprofit and NGO Studies

Experiential learning is an engaged learning process whereby students “learn by doing” and by reflecting on the experience. Adventure Works executive director with check from NNGO students

The Center for Nonprofit & NGO Studies at Northern Illinois University is excited to announce that it will be granting $2,500+ in unrestricted funds to local nonprofit organizations as part of the learning objectives in NNGO 301 Philanthropy & Fundraising class this spring. For the second year in a row, students will “learn by giving”. Last spring, the students awarded the $2,500 grant to Adventure Works.

The students have developed a grant application and will be evaluating all applicants through a variety of methods before selecting three (3) finalists. Each finalist will be asked to present their organization’s case for support in-person to the students on Monday, April 24th (early afternoon). Each presentation and Q&A session will serve to aid the students in their decision-making process to select one nonprofit to receive the full grant award announced on Wednesday, April 26, 2023.

Application opens at noon on February 10th and closes at 5 pm on March 10th.

Qualifications required to apply:

  1. Funds must be used to serve DeKalb County in some way, but are otherwise unrestricted.
  2. The organization must have established 501c3 status with the IRS.
  3. Only completed applications will be reviewed.
